Contemporary Console Tables – Perfect For Helping Create A Contemporary Living Room

A real living room is as much about having things put in the proper place as it is making sure the right furniture pieces, like contemporary console tables, fill the space.

Think to all the living rooms you have been in over your life. There were likely some where people had great looking furniture, but there was too much of it. It bogged down the space in the room and you may have been so focused on how crowded the space was that the furniture itself lost its impact. In other living rooms you may have seen a massive space that was not well utilized. While they were going for a contemporary look, there was too much space left open between the items in the room and you almost felt you had to yell to stay in the conversation, not to mention you couldn't reach the table, so you were forced to hold your drink all night. If there were contemporary console tables in place, this wouldn’t be a problem.

The first thing to remember when creating a living room space, especially a contemporary one, is that this area is meant to be a space where people are comfortable and the furniture is functional. The entire mantra of contemporary furniture is function over form. It's supposed to do its job first and foremost. The look is not as important.

Also, while space is supposed to be appreciated and celebrated in contemporary décor, that does not mean there needs to be so much space that those who are sitting in the room do not feel comfortable in conversation.

There is a middle ground where you can have it all.

First you need to know about furniture groupings. Groupings are the putting together of furniture pieces that need to be together, and leaving space where it is appropriate.

Let's take a living room for example. You have a sofa, chair, coffee table and contemporary console table. You may be wondering why you would have a contemporary console table instead of an end table. Simple, more functionality. Many contemporary console tables can fit the same space, but allow more storage in a drawer, cabinet or shelves, to keep the clutter in the room to a minimum.

When fitting all these furniture pieces into a room, you may be drawn to spread them out, so there is more space between each piece, to give what you feel is a strong contemporary look. But you don’t have to do that. Instead, group all the furniture pieces together, so they can be used in harmony, and leave more space around the grouping. This will give off the same contemporary décor effect you were hoping for, but also let your furniture be used for what it was intended. Instead of looking at that contemporary console table, you can actually put a drink on it. Instead of seeing a book across the room on the coffee table, you can open it.

Grouping in contemporary décor is important. After all, you want the look, but also need to remember the importance that contemporary furniture is not doing its job if it's not usable. And with contemporary console tables, you have both.
